PBR and Arnold Shaders - week 7
PBR
What is PBR?
PBR stands for Physically based rendering, PBR represents the interaction of light and materials in a more scientifically accurate way.
Comparison between Maya and PBR Shaders
Different softwares support different workflows like maya, unreal engine, blender support metalness while marmoset and substance support both metal and specular.
Practice
Assigning materials in maya
Select a polygon primitive sphere in maya and we are going to attach a material to it. You can go to channel box and rename the sphere too.By clicking right and scroll to bottom to assign new material, the dialogue box will be opened where you can choose a new material choose the blinn material as you can see a ray of shine in a sphere, pick the color you want and apply it.
Select phong and give it a new shade
you can assign different materials to polygons by just just selecting the material and assign new material from hypershade so it does not cost you alot of time.Windows>rendering editors>hypershade
Select phong and give it a new shade
Assigning materials in Arnold
whenever you create a material lamberth1 is assign to that material/polygon by default
change the color and apply the checker materialit be applied by default to other primitives as well
if you want to add a material to ¥our favourite list so you can apply at one click you can assign that as well
Project 2
Opened the asset which broken into 3 different meshes
assign the materials to the meshes which is aistandardsurface and open the lights by going to arnold>lights>sky dome lights (it's good for creating a variation of color temperature in the scene), go to color and open the HDR image which is already provided.
Go to the render settings>open the arnold renderer> settings> change the render from CPU to GPU so it'll render fast , go to arnold renderer tab, increase the camera settings to 5 , then images>add image>Denoiser images and it'll clear any noise we may get, open the render view and render the selected scene, we can change the renderer settings for having a high quality render too.
Self - Critique
The concepts seems hard to get into at first try but the practical was pretty easy after the work done.
